Act II · The method
Pick a public-domain play from the free Script Library, or drop in a PDF of your own: a full script, sides from a callback, a table-read draft. LineRunner extracts every character, cue, and delivery direction. Your own uploads are priced by script length, shown before anything is processed.

Stage notes
Yes. Your PDF is uploaded only to extract the dialogue, and is deleted as soon as it is parsed (or within about 20 minutes if parsing never starts). The parsed script lives on your device, and a copy sits in a cache on our servers keyed by a hash of the file, not by who you are, so a file parsed before does not have to be parsed again. When a line is voiced, its text goes to our speech provider and the audio stays on your device. Your Repertoire rides along in the device backup you already use (Google Drive on Android, iCloud or an encrypted backup on iPhone), so a new phone doesn't lose it; the audio is left out. Nobody at LineRunner reads the scripts we process, and we never sell them or use them to train AI models; they go only to the AI services that parse and voice them. If we decline an upload, we keep a short excerpt (up to 500 characters) so we can check the decision was right. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
The Script Library is free: pick a play and start rehearsing, with nothing to buy. Uploading your own script is a one-time in-app purchase for that script, charged through the App Store or Google Play. The price depends on how long the script is and ranges from $2.99 to $10.00 per script. You see the exact price for your script in the app before any processing begins, and again on your store's purchase sheet before you pay. You are charged only after the script has been processed successfully and you choose to add it to your Repertoire, and a script over our page limit is declined before any charge. There is no subscription, no account to create, and no ads.

Eighteen public-domain plays today: four Shakespeare comedies, classics from Wilde, Shaw and Chekhov, family-friendly stage adaptations (Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, A Christmas Carol, Toad of Toad Hall), and short one-acts such as Trifles and Riders to the Sea. Every one is free.
Every Library script is screened before it is published, and modern profanity or graphic sexual or violent content keeps a play out. These are classic plays, though, so period oaths, sword fights, deaths and ghosts stay in, as do the attitudes of their era and, in a few of the older texts, words that have since become offensive. Each title's synopsis is the quickest guide for a young performer.
A PDF with real text in it. LineRunner handles the layouts scripts actually arrive in: published plays, sides from a callback, screenplays, table-read drafts. Keep each upload under 24 MB, make sure the pages are legible and in order, and split a very long play act by act if LineRunner tells you it is over the page limit. A file that is only photographs of pages has no text to extract, so run it through a scanning app that produces a text PDF first.
Yes. On the cast screen, tap the voice beside any character and you get all thirteen, each with a sample button, plus an Automatic row that hands the character back to LineRunner's own casting by gender and age. If another character is already speaking in the voice you are about to pick, the list says so first. Your choices are saved with the script when you tap Start Rehearsal, and whatever you picked is the voice that character speaks in from then on, so closing the app does not lose it. Voices are set before a run rather than during one: to change one later, step back to the cast screen and start the scene again.
Yes. LineRunner saves the line you reached in each script. Leave a rehearsal, close the app, or switch to another script, and next time you can resume from that line or start over.
